About Grou
Grou (Dutch: Grouw) is a town in the province of Fryslân, with approximately 5,655 residents as of January 2017. Since 2014, Grou has been part of the municipality of Leeuwarden.
The town is located on Pikmeer Lake and the Prinses Margriet Canal. Grou previously served as the capital of the municipality of Idaarderadeel and later Boarnsterhim until municipal reorganizations in 1984 and 2014. The town celebrates Sint-Piter Day on February 21, a unique local tradition distinct from the rest of the Netherlands.
